I "remember" this night. This time of the year, 2015. We were camping out at Mulga Bore. The feral donkeys were particularly raucous that night, braying and galloping around at 3 in the morning, waking us with a start, anxious not to be in the path of a stampede.

Then, when things quietened, I shone the torch out of the netting at the head of the swag to see three sets of eyes. Dingoes came to clean up the skin and bones from the roo tail we cooked in the ground oven and relished over cups of tea, with stories of growing up on country, living off the land, following the tracks of the ancestors and celebrating what it is to be a free human.
